Maya is the Program Assistant at the Dreamer Resource Center. Her hobbies include painting, curating music playlists and tending to her plants. Maya's favorite music albums of all time are "Ctrl" by SZA, "Magdalene" by FKA Twigs, and "Rumors" by Fleetwood Mac. Her go to restaurant is J&T Thai Street Food! Their barbecue pork over rice is her weakness.

Do you need a referral or need to meet with a counselor who understands the undocumented student experience at large?

Please contact the SUBIR Dreamer Resource Center team to schedule one-on-one appointments to help you and support you in any way we can with your journey at City College and/or refer you to key City College departments, local organizations, and/or free immigration consultations. Appointments can be scheduled Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are not available during these times, please send email to SDCityDreamer@gmail.com to recommend a different option.

There are two types of appointment requests:

1. Meet with DRC Program Assistant Maya Ramirez on general support and services as students and prospective students who identify as undocumented at large (i.e. AB540, DACA, mixed-status family member) as well as referral to key on-campus departments and local organizations.

2. Meet with DRC Counselor Noel Puga on academic, career, and personal counseling as well as refer to free legal consultations on immigration services for students and their family members

Undocuhealing Circles

Carlos Sanz Memorial Scholarship Carlos Sanz was a first generation Mexican-American. With his work ethic and ingenuity, he became a successful businessman. He passed on his love of reading and education to his sons. His son Andre is a Counselor here at San Diego City College. This scholarship opportunity was established to pay forward Carlos' spirit of providing opportunity by supporting San Diego City College undocumented students.

DEFERRED ACTION FOR CHILDHOOD ARRIVALS (DACA)

As you may be aware, we are currently waiting for the Supreme Court of the United States to release its decision regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This decision will ultimately determine whether the DACA program will end or continue to provide thousands of young adults with protection from deportation and a work permit, renewable every two years. Although we cannot predict the exact date when the Supreme Court will release its decision, we know that it can be any day now.

Therefore, as we continue to wait for a decision, Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) wants you to know that we are here to support you and other DACA recipients, especially during this time. We understand that this time is full of uncertainty and fear as we do not know what the future of the DACA program will be. However, even though we do not know what the Supreme Court will ultimately decide, we encourage you to prepare for any outcome.

For this reason, we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible if you need to renew your DACA application before the Supreme Court makes its final decision. Unfortunately, initial DACA applications are not being accepted at this time.

In the meantime, our team put together a list of DACA-related resources that can help you prepare. Please find this list below.  We will periodically be updating this webpage so check back regularly.

Lastly, we want you to know the Immigration Services Department specifically, and JFS generally, continue to be available to assist and support you and our community. Please, feel free to contact our legal team with any concerns or questions.
