Special Notice.  Please refer to our campus closure and activities announcements regarding COVID19, given by President Ricky Shabazz in his email updates, and the updates from Chancellor Cortez

The Classified Senate activities will be held via Zoom until further notice so we can stay connected.  Professional Development will hold Classified Awareness Days events that should be engaging and fun.

Welcome to the Classified Senate page. Thank you for visiting and learning more about us.

The Classified Senate at City began in 1994. Over time the senate has strived to provide a positive and welcoming environment for all classified employees. We coordinate the annual service awards program, board elections, and Outstanding Employee of the Year elections, amongst many other activities and events.

In November 2017, all Classified Senates in SDCCD supported and approved the SDCCD Classified Senates Joint Resolution 2017-001 where classified employees now refer to themselves as Classified Professionals, or simply, Classified.

Accomplishments over the years have been:

  • Supporting City College students
  • Annual Adopt-a-Family benefit
  • Annual Student Scholarship
  • Participating in the Halloween event
  • Creating and Collaborating on Professional Development
  • Incorporating classified professionals into the campus’ New Hire Institute (NHI)
  • Co-creating the Career Pathways Institute (CPI)oParticipating in the 4CS/CCLC annual Classified Leadership Institute
  • Restarting Retreats at SDCC for Classified Professionals
  • Providing other workshops and opportunities for PD

Feel free to join the Classified Senate at one of our upcoming open meetings for more information and to meet fellow classified.

Sincerely,  Awana Payne

The San Diego Community College District is committed to legal compliance, as well as to provide as much support as possible for screening committees to successfully navigate through the hiring process.

The California Code of Regulations, Title 5 and the SDCCD EEO Plan collectively require that all persons who are involved in the recruitment and screening/selection of personnel must be trained on equal employment opportunity (EEO) laws, regulations and policies as well as education on the benefits of workforce diversity and ways to eliminate bias from the hiring process.

Completion of the "EEO and Diversity Training for Screening/Selection Committees" qualifies you to serve in any capacity (on the screening/selection committee) for 3 years from the date of your training.  If you anticipate participating on a District Screening Committee, in any capacity, you are encouraged to click here to view the training schedule and register.  If you will be the chairperson of a screening committee in the near future, you will need to ensure that your committee members have received this training in advance of their service on your committee.  Your efforts now will help avoid unnecessary delay to your committee since screening and interviewing cannot proceed until all committee members have completed this training.
