San Diego City College is committed to serving our surrounding communities through purposeful and impactful volunteerism. Our Week of Service program, which occurs during both Spring and Fall semesters, has been recognized by former United States President, Barack Obama, and San Diego Mayor, Kevin Faulconer, for exemplary dedication to service.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. famously said,
"If you want to be important--wonderful. If you want to be recognized--wonderful. If you want to be great--wonderful. But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. That's a new definition of greatness. By giving that definition of greatness, it means that everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don't have to know Einstein's theory of relativity to serve. You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love. And you can be that servant."
During these challenging times due to the COIVD-19 pandemic and economic uncertainty, it is still possible to serve! While we will not be sponsoring our Week of Service activities as you have come to know prior to COVID-19, there are still opportunities throughout our surrounding communities! We have prepared a list of organizations that are seeking volunteers should you be interested.

Should you participate in any volunteer activities, please send a selfie showing your spirit of giving and send it to Lori Oldham, Student Affairs Coordinator, at loldham@sdccd.edu and provide a brief description of when, where, why, and the impact to the organization. We will give you a shout out on the college's social media platforms!
Looking forward to seeing you in action! Take care and be well!
