Books

The professional development office has sets of the following books available for checkout.

  • McNair, Tia Brown, et al. Becoming a Student-Ready College: a New Culture of Leadership for Student Success. Jossey-Bass, 2016.

  • Wood, J. Luke, et al. Teaching Men of Color in the Community College: a Guidebook. Montezuma Publishing, 2015.

Clifton StrengthsFinder

The Clifton StrengthsFinder online assessment measures your talents -- your natural patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving -- and categorizes them into the 34 CliftonStrengths “themes.” This can, in turn, help you and your team identify the areas where you have the greatest potential for building strength.

During this hour-long online assessment, you'll see 177 paired statements and choose which one best describes you. The assessment can help illuminate what people naturally do best, as well as provide insight on how to develop your greatest talents into strengths.

You can use a strengths-based approach to answer questions like:

  • How can I improve employee engagement?
  • How can I improve employee development?
  • How can I coach employees?

Why? Because great things happen when you lead people based on their strengths, instead of only focusing on what's wrong. You can use CliftonStrengths reports and resources to create a culture where engaged teams use a strengths-based approach to accomplish their goals.
