Applying for Tuition Assistance

Please note that Active Duty Military must have prior approval from an ESO or military counselor prior to enrolling for classes.

Navy

Tuition Assistance- 

The Navy College website is https://www.navycollege.navy.mil/. For more information regarding the TA process, Sailors can contact the Navy College Virtual Education Center (NCVEC) between the hours of 0700 - 1900 Eastern Time, Monday-Friday (closed on Federal holidays). There are various ways to reach them. A Help Request can be submitted, initiating a chat, sending a text message to (877-838-1659) or by calling. 

Applying for Tuition Assistance (TA) for active duty Navy Personnel- 

Service members (Navy) interested in using their TA benefits can apply through the Navy College Program website at https://www.navycollege.navy.mil/. The service member can click on the "Get Started" button located on the site. This will take them through a series of 5 steps. Completion of these steps are required for TA.  

  • Step 1: Explore Education and Career Paths 
  • Step 2: Receive Counseling from a Navy College Education Counselor 
  • Step 3: Research, Select a School, & Develop a Plan 
  • Step 4: Secure Tuition Assistance & Other Funding 
  • Step 5: Execute Your Plan 

In Step 3, Sailors are required to upload a degree plan provided by the school. Sailors can schedule an appointment with a San Diego City College Counselor. To request an appointment to meet with a counselor, please see the 'Contact Us' section at the bottom of this page for more information.  

Sailors must have approval from an ESO or military counselor prior to enrolling for classes. 

Tuition Assistance Approval- 

When applying for TA, all steps must be completed at least two weeks prior to the start of the course that the Sailor is applying for. Once the process has been completed and approved, an approved TA voucher will be available through the Navy College website. You can sign it electronically or print it up and sign it. Please ensure that all information is correct on the voucher before submitting it to City College. Approved vouchers can be emailed to the Accounting Department at City College at citystudentaccounting@sdccd.edu  


Marines

Tuition Assistance-

For more information regarding the TA process (MCRD), Marines can visit the Lifelong Learning Center (Building 111) at MCRD Monday through Friday between the hours of 0730-1600. Please note that the Lifelong Learning Center is currently closed for in-person business due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Counselors are available for the following remote services:

  • Ask the e-Counselor:  submit an email if you have a general counseling related question, that does not require review of your personal academic record.  
  • Same Day Drop-in Session:   Drop-ins sessions are available for new and continuing students who have a quick question that can be answered in 15 - 20 minutes.  Completing education plans is not available during these sessions.  Check for available appointments very early each morning.
  • Schedule a virtual e-Appointment:  submit a request to meet with a counselor for a longer period of time to thoroughly review the answers to your questions.
